VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS

ROUTE GUIDES

  • WHAT

    Direct riders at turns and intersections, watch out for rider safety, cheer on participants

  • WHY

    Be at the center of the Ride action – great for volunteering with a friend or neighbor

  • WHEN

    Saturday in 3-4 hour shifts, from early morning until early afternoon. You may sign up for more than one shift, if interested.

  • WHERE

    On our routes: Amherst, Clarence, Newstead, Buffalo, City & Town of Tonawanda, Niagara Falls, Genesee County, Niagara Parkway, Canada.

Campus & Parking Guide

  • WHAT

    Help direct flow of traffic to parking spots and assist riders around campus

  • WHY

    There are 10,000 people on campus at any given time throughout Ride Weekend. The Campus & Parking Guides are responsible for greeting and directing riders and guests, as well as making sure both pedestrian and vehicular traffic runs smoothly.

  • WHEN

    Friday and Saturday. Shifts are generally 3-4 hours and you can self-schedule based on your availability.

  • WHERE

    Various UB North Campus locations.

SET UP & BREAK DOWN

  • WHAT

    Distribute food and beverage supplies and/or help with clean up. This position involves heavy lifting.

  • WHY

    Ride Weekend involves countless supplies, and Set Up & Break Down volunteers make sure all supplies get to the right place on campus to ensure the event goes off without a hitch.

  • WHEN

    Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Shifts are generally 3-4 hours and you can self-schedule based on your availability.

  • WHERE

    UB Stadium

RIDING MARSHALS

  • WHAT

    Help riders with minor mechanical issues and keep an eye out for safety and anyone who might need medical attention.

  • WHY

    Safety is a top priority of the Ride. Serve the Ride and your fellow riders by putting your skills and leadership to work.

  • WHEN

    Saturday morning from your route start to the time you finish.

  • WHERE

    On the same route you’re already signed up to ride.

Route Vehicle Support

  • WHAT

    Drive the routes and make deliveries to Rest Stops, help with communications by having a HAM radio operator along as a passenger, and offer mechanical or first-aid assistance to riders

  • WHY

    Safety is a top priority of the Ride. Serve the Ride by putting your skills and leadership to work.

  • WHEN

    Saturday, varying shifts, from early morning until early afternoon.

  • WHERE

    Throughout our routes: Amherst-Clarence-Newstead, Buffalo, City & Town of Tonawanda, Niagara Falls, Genesee County, Niagara Parkway, Canada

CELEBRATION OF HOPE

  • WHAT

    Work at the Survivorship Tent, help setup and clean up, or serve food to event participants

  • WHY

    The Celebration of Hope kicks off Ride Weekend, and volunteers are needed both to keep the event organized, safe and successful.

  • WHEN

    Friday Night. Shifts are generally 3-4 hours and you can self-schedule based on your availability.

  • WHERE

    UB North Campus

PHOTOGRAPHER

  • WHAT

    Document the Ride and capture rider photos, volunteer photos, rest stop photos, as well as photos of facilities and equipment. Photographers need to bring their own digital camera and have editing software.

  • WHY

    Photographers make Ride memories as they take action shots of riders and volunteers. Upload your memory cards at the end of your day and riders and volunteers can search for their photos on Flickr.

  • WHEN

    Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Shifts are scheduled with our Photographer Coordinators.

  • WHERE

    UB North Campus, Roswell Park Cancer Comprehensive Cancer Center, Rest Stops and throughout the routes

READY TEAM

  • WHAT

    Man the Volunteer Center outside of Alumni Arena on UB’s North Campus, relieve other volunteers, fill in on special projects, respond to sudden needs, resolve problems and assist special visitors

  • WHY

    Ready team members are ready to go wherever and whenever they are needed. There may be periods of downtime, depending on the assignment. This position may consist of manual labor, and may need to lift up to 30 lbs.

  • WHEN

    Friday & Saturday. Shifts are generally 3-4 hours and you can self-schedule based on your availability.
