The Peloton Training Rides are designed to instruct riders how to safely ride in formation (2×2) using hand signals and other best practices. Although the training rides do not follow the actual Peloton route, they will simulate the distance and pace of the Peloton by riding for approximately 10 miles at an average speed of 12 MPH. The rides are round-trip, beginning and ending at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and will not go to the UB campus.
Please note that 12 MPH is the average speed – it is not uncommon for the Peloton to reach higher speeds on Ride Day. If you are not comfortable riding uninterrupted for one hour at 12 MPH please or ask the Ride leaders for suggestions on a training plan.
The rides generally last for 60-90 minutes so you might want to eat a light snack an hour before and/or bring a gel or sports bar with you on the ride. Please bring the following items with you on the day of your Peloton Training Ride:
- Bottle(s) of water (or other sports drink)
- At least one extra spare tube that will fit your bike (there are different tubes for Road, Mountain, and Hybrid bikes)
- A bike that is safe and mechanically sound to ride (if you haven’t had your bike inspected and/or tuned up yet this year, please do so before your training ride)
- Weather-appropriate attire (e.g. wind vest, rain jacket, fleece, etc., as needed)
